The 'HG (High Grade)' series of Gunpla, launched by Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division, which boasts the most comprehensive range of mobile suits faithfully recreating their anime appearances, has announced the latest product from the side story manga "Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury Vanadis Heart": the "HG 1/144 GUNDAM NAION", scheduled for release in September 2025.
The story of "Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch from Mercury Vanadis Heart" takes place in A.S. 106, five years after the prequel "Vanadis Incident". Dr. Vilda Miren, a physician researching GUND medical applications, and her young assistant Kiyo Labot, travel to Earth aboard a massive cargo ship. The item they are transporting is a mobile suit named "Gundam Lfrith Jiu". Vilda's goal for this journey is to put an end to the "curse" born from the ideal of GUND technology.
The newly released mobile suit, "GUNDAM NAION", designed by mechanical designer Kou Inada, is known as the "Gundam that saves the world". The kit thoroughly recreates the unique contours of its head, chest, shoulders, and legs with new molds, as well as the large, wing-like beam weapon "Vajra" on its back. The numerous glowing parts characteristic of the GUND system throughout its body are produced using stickers combined with clear overlay parts, allowing for both illuminated and non-illuminated states.
The articulation design is consistent with previously released "The Witch from Mercury" series products, featuring flexible movable joints that allow for dynamic combat poses when combined with the handheld long-handled beam weapon "Variable Beam Rifle/Sword" and the "Beam Sabers" stored on either side of the head. The two "Vajra" beam weapons on the back can also pivot forward via multi-directional movable axes, extending their grips and muzzles to recreate firing states. The six GUND bits mounted on the "Vajra" can also be detached individually to recreate launch states with separately sold display stands.
