BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division in Japan has announced the latest product from the most diverse 1/144 scale Gunpla 'HG (High Grade)' series, the 'HG 1/144 Sayla Mass's Custom Light Cannon' from the anime 'Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX', scheduled for release in October 2025. This product will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
In the 'Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX' timeline, due to the capture and destruction of the 'RX-78 Gundam' series by the Principality of Zeon in the late One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces were forced to shift the focus of their mobile suit development plan to the 'RX-77-2 Guncannon'. Based on this, they developed the mass-produced light-armored specification 'RGM-79 Light Cannon', which combined the close-quarters combat capabilities of the Gundam with the mid-range artillery capabilities of the Guncannon. In the show, Sayla Mass, the sister of Char Aznable, briefly appeared piloting her custom Light Cannon inside the Solomon Fortress during the Second Battle of Solomon.
The 'HG 1/144 Sayla Mass's Custom Light Cannon' is based on a modification of previously released general specifications, with the exterior armor molding colors replaced with the same red, yellow, blue, and white colors as the Gundam. The kit utilizes Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology to faithfully reproduce the unique design by Ikuto Yamashita, featuring limbs similar to the RX-78-02 Gundam and a Core Fighter backpack design. From the back, the exposed frame structure of the thighs is visible. The unique hip joint design is also perfectly recreated, allowing for dynamic posing of the legs.
The armament includes a beam rifle and beam saber, identical to the general specifications, while the back-mounted cannon features a single-axis movable mechanism for adjusting the firing angle. This version further adds the same mace weapon as the 'HG 1/144 Red Gundam'. The mace's chain parts are repurposed from the 'RG 1/144 Gundam Ver.2.0 Weapon Set', produced with an integrated injection-molded 'Advanced MS Joint' specification. Once cut from the runner, it can be freely bent and used to recreate dynamic throwing poses.
