The 'HG (High Grade)' series, the most diverse 1/144 scale Gunpla line from Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division, has announced the release of the 'HG 1/144 Gustav Karl (Type 00)' from the anime 'Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash', slated for February 2026.
The FD-03 Gustav Karl is the Earth Federation Forces' latest mass-produced general-purpose mobile suit, redesigned from the 'RGM-89 Jegan' for ground combat. Its performance surpasses that of the standard Jegan, and many Federation ground units began preliminary operational testing of it in Universal Century 0096. Its distinguishing features include heavy armor and armament consisting of a beam rifle and beam saber, identical to those of the Jegan, along with a Jesta-type shield.
The Gustav Karl first appeared in the novel version of 'Hathaway's Flash', but its design differed significantly from the versions that later appeared in 'UC' and 'NT'. It was not until the anime adaptation of 'Hathaway's Flash' that Katoki Hajime redesigned it, continuing the 'Gundam UC' version's aesthetic while paying homage to the blue color scheme of the 'SD Gundam G Generation F' version designed by Kazuki Fujita.
While the 'HG 1/144 Gustav Karl (Type 00)' inherits the design of the previously released'Gundam UC' version, almost all parts have been redesigned to reinterpret it as the 'Hathaway's Flash' version, featuring precise color separation, intricate part division, and the latest articulation mechanisms. The hip joint connecting shafts utilize a sliding mechanism to expand the range of motion for the legs. The left shoulder shield can defend in multiple directions via its movable axis. Armaments include a beam rifle, beam saber, and bazooka. The beam rifle and bazooka can be mounted on the backpack, while the beam saber hilt can be stored in the side skirt armor.
