Japan's TAKARA TOMY toy company has announced the latest collaboration product in its best-selling toy series, 'Pop-Up Pirate', with Sanrio. The new product, "Kuromi Pop-Up Pirate", is scheduled for release on October 25, 2025.
Commonly known as the pirate barrel, 'Pop-Up Pirate' has released countless design variations since its first product launched in 1975. Although most maintain the simple gameplay, the rich interactive experience with friends and family, along with the thrilling randomness, always keeps people coming back for more. The original rule was for everyone to take turns inserting swords into the barrel, and whoever cut the rope first to rescue the partner inside the barrel would win. However, influenced by variety shows, the popular way to play later evolved into "the person who makes the pirate pop up loses."
"Kuromi Pop-Up Pirate" similarly continues the series' simple yet exciting gameplay, with the toy's appearance redesigned in a Kuromi style. It features a purple-toned barrel, four colorful short swords adorned with butterfly ribbon designs, and the main figure is Kuromi dressed as a pirate, complete with an adorable heart-shaped eye patch and arms raised, ready to pop out. With every sword inserted, players will eagerly anticipate Pirate Kuromi flying towards them!
