KOTOBUKIYA "Mega Man X Zero 1st Ver. Model Kit" New Parts Recreate First Appearance and Maverick Era Design!

KOTOBUKIYA, a Japanese model manufacturer, has announced the latest product in its model kit series based on the classic video game "Mega Man," the "Zero 1st Ver." from "Mega Man X," slated for release in February 2026.

The game's other protagonist, Zero, is a Special A-Class Maverick Hunter with extremely high combat capabilities. However, he is actually Dr. Wily's final creation before his death, installed with a "robot destruction program" and programmed with an "absolute evil" personality. Even Dr. Wily realized that this design would be uncontrollable and ultimately sealed him away. A century later, the seal was inexplicably broken, and the awakened Zero became a rampaging Maverick. Sigma, who was a Maverick Hunter at the time, defeated Zero, causing Zero's violent personality to transform into a calm, composed one that despises evil. Sigma then recruited him into his 17th Elite Unit for observation, and he later became a comrade-in-arms to the protagonist, X.

The newly released "Zero 1st Ver. Model Kit" (left), compared to the previously released X3-X6 version of Zero (right), is also produced at a 1/12 scale with a height of approximately 14.4 cm. However, aside from reusing joint parts, the entire body's design utilizes new components. CAD design has been employed to faithfully recreate the original's more understated armor, the completely different circular shoulder pads, and the "Zero Buster" on his right arm. Zero's distinctive golden long hair is also presented with new upward-sweeping parts. Furthermore, the leg joint structure has been upgraded, enhancing playability and articulation.

Accessories include four pairs of interchangeable hand parts and three expression parts: "left-gazing closed-mouth face," "right-gazing roaring face," and "front-facing smiling face," which are also interchangeable with the X3-X6 version of Zero's expression parts. The "Zero Buster" can be attached to either the right or left arm by swapping parts. Although this version of Zero has not yet acquired his signature "Z-Saber," a "broken iron pipe" is included. This can be combined with a clear head part featuring Dr. Wily's "W" logo to recreate his menacing appearance during his Maverick era, as seen in game cinematics.
