Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division is set to release its latest product from the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" on September 20, 2025: the "HG 1/144 Rick Dom Gaia / Ortega Custom (GQ)". On the eve of its release, official new information has been unveiled, including the product's box art design and actual sample images.
In the "GQuuuuuuX" timeline, the Zeon military mobile suit "MS-09 Rick Dom" is, by design, a space-use specification modified from the ground-combat type "Dom". Designer Ikuto Yamashita has reimagined its appearance based on the original "Mobile Suit Gundam" design. While the overall silhouette is similar, the limbs are more slender, and the new back design is truly astonishing. Not only are large thrusters added to both sides of the waist, but a "third leg" is directly installed, allowing it to transform into a high-mobility form capable of high-speed hovering movement.
The "HG 1/144 Rick Dom Gaia / Ortega Custom (GQ)" utilizes Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology, along with a rich array of molded color parts, to faithfully reproduce its substantial and heavy fuselage. The exterior armor extensively reproduces various sections using two shades of purple, dark blue, and gray. The red parts on the head and the inner side of the shoulder armor are presented as separate pieces. However, the numerous thruster nozzles on the back and the bottom of the feet are represented by a single silver part, requiring self-painting for the red interiors of the nozzles.
The movable joints throughout also largely reproduce Ikuto Yamashita's new design. Particularly in the arms, both shoulder armors feature an upward-flipping articulation mechanism, and the spherical shoulder joints can rotate flexibly in multiple directions, allowing for dynamic poses such as wielding the Heat Saber or firing the Giant Bazooka with both hands. The distinctive "third leg" can be deployed directly from the back without needing to replace parts, recreating the "high-mobility form" transformation where it hovers and moves at high speed on the ground. For weaponry, it includes two "Heat Sabers," one "Giant Bazooka," and a yellow single-core wire part to recreate the "Electromagnetic Grapple" weapon hidden in the wrist.
