The robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT魂", released by BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Division TAMASHII NATIONS in Japan, has announced its latest product from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam", the "ROBOT魂 (Ka signature) Rick Dias Prototype", scheduled for release in February 2026.
The RX-098 Rick Dias Prototype is the prototype for the high-performance mass-production mobile suit "Rick Dias", which the AEUG commissioned Anaheim Electronics to develop. Its development brought together former Zeon military technicians. Initially, to save time, it adopted a structure and movable frame similar to Federation-type mobile suits. However, a power output deficiency was soon discovered. This issue was resolved only after replacing the armor material with "Gundarium γ", earning it the development codename "γ Gundam". This unit inherits the lineage of the Dwadge, the final evolution of the Dom, and incorporates technical feedback from the Gundam GP02. Its backpack is equipped with two massive "Hyper Beam Sabers", giving it an advantage in close-quarters combat, though this armament was not adopted for subsequent mass production.
The "ROBOT魂 (Ka signature) Rick Dias Prototype" is thoroughly supervised by mechanical designer KATOKI HAJIME. It meticulously recreates details such as the heavy armor made of "Gundarium γ" and the Zeon-style power system with numerous exposed pipes. It features a heavy, substantial color application and KATOKI HAJIME's original design markings, adding a stronger sense of realism to the mobile suit.
For its armaments, the pair of stabilizers on the backpack can be optionally attached to the outer sides of the shoulders. The large beam saber hilt mounted on top of the backpack can be detached and fitted with a giant beam effect. It also includes two "Clay Bazookas" used by the Rick Dias and Hyaku Shiki in the "Z Gundam" series, one "Rick Dias Clay Bazooka" with a spare magazine at the rear, and two "Beam Pistols". The head also faithfully reproduces the deployment mechanism for its internal "Twin Vulcan".
