BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan is set to release its latest Gunpla product, the "RG 1/144 Wing Gundam Zero," from the anime series "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" on September 27, 2025. Ahead of its release, official new information including the product box art design and actual sample images has been unveiled.
The XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero is the prototype for all Gundam mobile suits in the "Gundam Wing" universe. After developing the Tallgeese, six scientists, including Doctor J, sought to improve its unmanageable nature for ordinary pilots and pursue ultimate combat performance, ultimately designing the Wing Gundam Zero around A.C. 180. This mobile suit features armor made from "Gundanium Alloy," which boasts high impact and heat resistance, and is equipped with the "ZERO System" to stabilize the pilot's physical and mental state. Its primary weapon, the "Twin Buster Rifle," possesses astonishing power capable of destroying a space colony with a single shot at maximum output. However, possibly due to immature technology at the time or drawbacks of the ZERO System, the data for this mobile suit was sealed for a long period, only to be officially produced and deployed in actual combat in A.C. 195.
This release of the "RG 1/144 Wing Gundam Zero" distinguishes itself from previous series mobile suits like the Wing Gundam and Wing Gundam Zero EW. The kit features entirely new molding, meticulously reproducing the sharp contours and rich armor colors of the entire mobile suit with precise color separation and part division, resulting in refined detail. The white armor sections also continue the RG series' style, incorporating gray parts to enhance layering and a sense of weight, allowing for a significant recreation of the design's colors straight out of the box. Additionally, the product includes RG-specific "Realistic Decals," printed with body markings, color blocks, and lines to add abundant detail.
Regarding articulation, both hip joints feature independent sliding axes. When the knee joints bend, they interlock with the knee armor and calf armor, allowing the lower body to achieve more natural and flexible movements. The back wings adopt a five-axis movable design, enabling multi-directional rotation. The internal thrusters can rotate, extend, and interlock as the wings deploy. By swapping some parts, the kit can transform into its "Neo-Bird Mode," faithfully recreating the foot transformation mechanism seen in the series.
Weapons include Beam Sabers, a Shield, and its signature "Twin Buster Rifle." The shield features an extendable nose cone section and an RG original wing interlocking mechanism, allowing both wings to deploy simultaneously with a single flick. The Twin Buster Rifle can separate and combine, and its barrel is equipped with an RG original telescoping mechanism. Combined with the weapon-holding hand featuring a locking mechanism, it allows for dynamic and powerful shooting poses. The outer shoulder armor can open to reveal thrusters and store Beam Sabers, while the chest can open to reveal the cockpit hatch and two internal Gatling guns.
