The popular assembly model candy toy series "SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT" (SMP) from Japan's Bandai Candy Toy Division announced its latest product from Go Nagai's classic robot work "Mazinger Z," the "Mazinger Z Pilder On! Set," scheduled for release in April 2026.
In the anime version of "Mazinger Z," Dr. Juzo Kabuto secretly spent 15 years building the super robot "Mazinger Z," powered by Photon Energy and made of Super Alloy Z, to thwart Dr. Hell's ambition of world domination. However, Dr. Juzo Kabuto was attacked and killed by the Iron Masked Army at the beginning of the story. Before his death, he entrusted Mazinger Z and his dying wish to fight Dr. Hell to his grandson, Koji Kabuto. Using powerful armaments such as the Photon Beam, Rocket Punch, and Breast Fire, Koji defended against Dr. Hell's Mechanical Beast Army.
The "SMP Mazinger Z Pilder On! Set" uses the same body kit as the Standard Edition, featuring a refined sculpt faithful to the original and flexible articulation, with a pull-out hip joint design to expand the lower body's range of motion. However, the part molding colors differ from the Standard Edition's homage to vintage alloy toys, instead adopting an "Anime Color" scheme where silver parts have a greenish tint. The Hover Pilder canopy, the mask below the eyes, and the blue armor on the limbs have also been adjusted to match the colors used in the anime.
Furthermore, the accessories are more luxurious than the Standard Edition, including the addition of the "Jet Pilder," an enhanced machine from the later part of the anime, which can be combined with effect parts to recreate the head docking sequence. The "Jet Scrander" flight unit for Mazinger Z can be attached to its back. Armaments include "Rocket Punch Jet Effects," "Elbow Drill Missile recreation parts," and "Iron Cutter recreation arm parts," allowing for dynamic poses that recreate Mazinger Z's enhanced combat style from the later anime.
In addition, the product can be linked with the separately sold "SMP Kotetsu Jeeg Combination Set." Besides holding "Jeeg Lancer" and "Jeeg Shield" in both hands, the elbow parts can be replaced to connect the "Mach Drill," and the lower body can combine with the Panzeroid to form a Centaur Mode. Similarly, Kotetsu Jeeg can also use Mazinger Z's "Rocket Punch Jet Effects" and "Iron Cutter arm parts."
