BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan today at the "All Japan Model & Hobby Show" first unveiled the development prototype for a new Gunpla product, the "MG 1/100 New Astray Gundam Red Frame (tentative)", from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ASTRAY". The release date is yet to be determined.
The Gundam Astray series consists of Mobile Suits completed by Orb's state-owned Morgenroete, Inc. by illicitly using the Atlantic Federation's MS development technology during their collaboration, thereby enhancing national defense capabilities. However, due to the failure in analyzing "Phase Shift Armor" technology, they opted for foamed metal armor and significantly reduced the armor area to maintain mobility. Although they lost most of their defensive power, their excellent maneuverability compensated for the shortcomings. Among them, the Gold Frame, with its golden frame, was developed with special specifications, allowing it to use GAT series armaments manufactured by the Alliance.
This new version of the Gundam Astray Red Frame comes from the official side-story manga "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ASTRAY". The story is set between "SEED DESTINY" and "SEED FREEDOM", where the two main protagonists, former comrades Lowe Guele and Gai Murakumo, become adversaries due to a mysterious figure named "Limitless" commissioning the assassination of Lowe Guele.
The "MG 1/100 New Astray Gundam Red Frame (tentative)" exhibited at the venue features significantly different exterior armor and movable frame designs compared to previously released Red Frame series products, and its previously robust upper body silhouette has become quite slender.
