From Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division, the 'HG (High Grade)' series of 1/144 scale Gunpla, known for its diverse range of mobile suits, has announced its latest product from the side story novel "ADVANCE OF Ζ: Under the Flag of Titans": the "HG 1/144 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] Icarus Unit Equipped", scheduled for release in March 2026. This product will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] Icarus Unit Equipped is a test specification developed by the Titans through repeated verification and redesign, aiming to enable variable mobile suits to achieve independent flight in gravity environments without relying on transformation mechanisms or auxiliary flight systems. Based on the "Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom]", the unit features additional thermonuclear jet thrusters on its shoulders, hips, rear, and other areas, achieving the ability to hover and fly solely through thrust. This experimental data became the foundation for the later development of the high-performance aerial combat mobile suit, "RX-160 Byarlant".
The "HG 1/144 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] Icarus Unit Equipped" is a modification of the previously released Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] kit, combining new parts made with the latest HG series specifications to recreate its appearance equipped with the "Icarus" flight unit. The massive thermonuclear jet thrusters on the shoulders can rotate forwards and backward via a pull-out mechanism, and the front and rear armor covering the nozzles can flip upwards, reproducing the in-flight state.
The mobile suit also features a rich array of weapon mechanisms. The "Beam Reflectors" on both sides of the chest have an unfolding mechanism, with sticker decals to reproduce the reflector patterns. The Beam Saber comes with clear red blade effects, while the Long-Range Beam Rifle can be combined with Beam Rifle parts to recreate both deployed and stored states. The "Shield Booster", identical in specification to the Hazel Custom's, can be optionally mounted on the backpack or on the side thrusters.
Furthermore, the two side thrusters can be linked with the separately sold "RX-160 Byarlant" kit, allowing the Byarlant's arm parts to be attached to the thrusters.
