Japan's official Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, has announced the latest limited-edition product from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam," the "MG 1/100 GM Sniper Custom (Mobile Suit Z Gundam Ver.)," which is scheduled to go on sale at various stores starting February 14, 2026.
The RGM-79SC GM Sniper Custom is a sniper-specialized mobile suit produced by the Earth Federation Forces during the One Year War, designed as a custom unit for veteran ace pilots. Its materials are significantly superior to those of the mass-produced GM, with performance comparable to the RX-78 series Gundam, and it can be equipped with various sub-armaments to suit the pilot's needs. Its main weapon, the "R4 Beam Rifle," boasts a high convergence rate, allowing for precise targeting. Its most famous pilot, Tenneth A Jung, shot down a total of 149 mobile suits and 3 battleships during the One Year War, a record surpassing that of Amuro Ray, the Newtype hero active on the battlefield at the time.
This release of the "MG 1/100 GM Sniper Custom (Mobile Suit Z Gundam Ver.)" is based on a modified version of the previously released regular MG kit. The entire unit's molding colors have been changed from the original "olive green + gray" to the "dark green tone" seen in the Z Gundam series. Furthermore, the product features the same box art design as the 1985 "1/144 GM Sniper (Z)" old kit, evoking a strong sense of retro nostalgia.
Other specifications remain the same as the regular version. The GM Sniper Custom's main body also utilizes frame parts from the "MG Gundam Ver.2.0," boasting intricate detailing and excellent articulation. The entire exterior armor features sophisticated sculpting to represent its in-series design, faithfully reproducing details such as the chest air intakes, backpack, and rear calf thrusters. Included decals allow for the recreation of various unit markings. The head features a movable visor opening and closing mechanism.
Armaments include the "R4 Beam Rifle" which can be folded and stored in the rear skirt armor, a "Beam Pistol" that can be folded and stored in the wrist, a "Twin Beam Gun" that can be mounted on the left leg, a "Beam Saber" installed on the right arm, as well as a "Hyper Bazooka" and a "Shield."
