The Danish LEGO Group's "LEGO Icons" series has unveiled a new set, "11389 Project Hail Mary," inspired by the eponymous film adaptation of the science fiction novel Project Hail Mary! Priced at US$99.99, it is slated for release on March 1, 2026.
Published in 2021, Project Hail Mary is the latest science fiction novel by American author Andy Weir, following his acclaimed works The Martian and Artemis. Set in the near future, Earth faces an impending and irreversible ice age. This crisis is caused by Astrophage (star-eaters / light-eaters) rapidly consuming the sun's energy (a phenomenon highlighted in the movie trailer as 'the sun is dying'). Middle school teacher Ryland Grace, a former molecular biologist who is not even an astronaut, is compelled to undertake a space mission to save all of humanity.
This set comprises 830 pieces, featuring the story's iconic "Hail Mary" spaceship, a display stand, a Ryland Grace LEGO minifigure in a red spacesuit, and the alien Rocky. Beyond the captivating design of the Hail Mary, the display stand itself holds a clever secret! It incorporates a mechanism that allows the individual bases for Ryland Grace and Rocky to be combined, and a rotatable handle to simulate the spaceship orbiting, offering an engaging play experience. Complete with an informational plaque, this set is sure to thrill sci-fi enthusiasts of Project Hail Mary. This editor is personally looking forward to the film adaptation starring Ryan Gosling!
