Japanese gashapon manufacturer BLUE MOUNTAIN (Blue Mountain Co., Ltd.), established in 2025, will release a somewhat satirical animal-themed gashapon series titled "Smartphone Life" (tentative translation, スマホ人生) in May 2026! The suggested retail price is 500 JPY per capsule, with a total of four designs to collect.
As smartphones become globally prevalent and people's reliance on them grows, the term "smombie" (smartphone zombie) has inevitably emerged. Unexpectedly, beyond humans, the clutches of high technology have quietly extended into the animal kingdom. This "Smartphone Life" series features four designs: "Crocodile," "Panda," "Penguin," and a two-figure set of "Dog & Cat."
Each animal holds a smartphone, head bowed, eyes fixed on the screen. While visually conveying an adorable sense of incongruity, they truly resemble us, addicted to our phones, and appear devoid of emotion. While feeling that this gashapon series is fun and will surely lead to interesting photos, it also evokes a slight sense of unease. What an excellent gashapon series!
