Good Smile Company's MECHA SMILE brand is bringing the adorable "PUI PUI Molcar" stop-motion animation series to life with their MODEROID model kit line. Following the releases of Shirumo and Abby, this article introduces the "MODEROID PUI PUI Molcar Potato" model kit! It will retail for 1,800 JPY and is slated for release in January 2022.
The original Japanese stop-motion TV animation "PUI PUI Molcar" (PUI PUI モルカー) is directed and written by Tomoki Misato. The series features adorable felted guinea pig-inspired vehicles, known as "Molcars" (モルカー), as its protagonists. Centered around unique scenarios combining guinea pigs and cars, these Molcars, with their beady eyes, short limbs, tiny steps, and constant "PUI PUI" squeaks, deliver stories packed with healing, friendship, adventure, and chaotic action in each short 2-minute, 40-second episode.
The MODEROID PUI PUI Molcar Potato model kit transforms the plump Molcar into an easy-to-assemble kit. Its colorful parts faithfully recreate Potato's distinctive yellow and white fur and pink wheels. Standing approximately 70mm tall, the assembled model captures Potato's appearance from the show. It includes two sets of wheels: one for static display and another for rolling action, allowing fans to recreate its adorable scurrying movements. Additionally, various wheel angles and tear/sweat stickers are provided to express the Molcar's emotions. The kit also comes with an unpainted gray model of the Driver Sister figure, portrayed by director Tomoki Misato's own sister, Mizuho Misato, allowing collectors to fully recreate scenes from the series.
