Following the release of its "Destroy All Monsters ROUND 1" and "ROUND 2" sets, US toy brand MEZCO TOYZ is now expanding its retro-styled 4.5-inch action figure "5 POINTS XL" series with a new "Mothra and Shobijin Twins Boxed Set," themed after the 1964 film "Mothra vs. Godzilla"! Priced at $60 USD, the set is slated for release from March to May 2022.
Released in 1964, "Mothra vs. Godzilla" (モスラ対ゴジラ) was the fourth film in the Godzilla series and the first to depict the conflict and battle between Mothra and Godzilla. While the adult Mothra in the film was no match for Godzilla, the twin Mothra larvae born afterward used their small bodies to weave through rock crevices, continuously taking turns to draw attacks and spew silk to restrain Godzilla's movements. They ultimately succeeded in binding Godzilla, causing the immobilized monster to fall into the sea. This film boldly utilized composite techniques (such as for the Shobijin) and highly detailed miniature sets, ushering in a new era for Japanese monster cinema.
The MEZCO TOYZ "Mothra and Shobijin Twins" Boxed Set reinterprets the characters in the 5 POINTS XL design style. This set features the Shobijin Twins, who protect Mothra, and Mothra itself, which boasts a 9-inch wingspan. It faithfully recreates the facial features and short hair of the original Shobijin, with flocked material used for their white fur caps and white fur capes. The set includes two interchangeable head sculpts with different expressions and swappable arm parts, allowing for poses like praying or holding hands. As for Mothra, in addition to its adorable round eyes and vibrant, striking wings, flocked details have been added to its wings and head, creating a fuzzy texture for its scales and fur!
