Japanese manufacturer quesQ (Kyushu Q Co., Ltd.), known for its wide range of anime and game character figures, is set to release a 1/120 scale pre-painted figure of the protagonist fighter craft, "R-9Ø RAGNAROK," from the classic high-difficulty shooting game "R-TYPE." This highly anticipated collectible is scheduled for release in May 2022.
For many veteran gamers, "R-TYPE" evokes strong memories. This iconic side-scrolling shooter first launched in arcades by Irem in 1987. Players pilot the uniquely designed fighter, the "R-9," skillfully maneuvering its external "Force" device to combat incoming enemies. Beyond strategically attaching the Force to the front or rear of the craft, players can also charge up and unleash the devastating Wave Cannon. Renowned for its extreme difficulty, the game earned a reputation as a "high-density tactical combat shooter," a truly hardcore experience.
The "R-9Ø" figure from quesQ is based on the protagonist fighter from "R-TYPE III," which debuted on the Super Famicom (SNES) in 1993. Nicknamed "Ragnarok" (meaning "Twilight of the Gods"), this high-output fighter is equipped with a powerful Wave Cannon weapon. This pre-painted finished product meticulously recreates the R-9Ø fighter in a 1/120 scale. It comes complete with its distinctive Round Force and accompanying Bit devices, all presented on dedicated, specially sculpted display stands to perfectly capture its in-game glory. As an added detail, the side armor on the fuselage can be freely detached or attached.
