GOOD SMILE COMPANY's popular MODEROID model kit series is set to release a new kit featuring the titular protagonist robot, Giant Robo (ジャイアントロボ), from the classic OVA series "Giant Robo: The Animation - The Day the Earth Stood Still"! The kit is slated for an October 2022 release.
"Giant Robo" (ジャイアントロボ), originally created by the renowned late manga artist Mitsuteru Yokoyama, first debuted as a manga series in 1967. It tells the story of protagonist Daisaku Kusama and Giant Robo as they battle the nefarious Big Fire (BF) Group. The franchise later saw a live-action TV drama adaptation. In 1992, a special OVA series, "Giant Robo: The Animation - The Day the Earth Stood Still" (ジャイアントロボ THE ANIMATION 地球が靜止する日), was released. This new seven-episode production built upon the original "Giant Robo" concept, incorporating characters from other works by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, and featured enhanced visuals and storytelling.
This MODEROID Giant Robo model kit faithfully recreates the design from the OVA "Giant Robo: The Animation - The Day the Earth Stood Still." Standing at an impressive 24 cm tall, the kit features the iconic back-mounted rocket launcher, which can be posed in its firing state using interchangeable parts. Thanks to its extensive color separation, the model achieves an appearance remarkably close to its on-screen counterpart right out of the box with simple assembly. The kit also includes an in-scale Daisaku Kusama figure that can ride Giant Robo, along with various interchangeable hand parts. As an added bonus, two unpainted display figures of Daisaku Kusama and Ginrei, approximately 1/20 scale, are also included! (Painting required).
