Japanese model maker Kaiyodo has announced the latest addition to its highly-detailed tokusatsu statue series, Character Classics. Straight from the blockbuster film "Shin Ultraman," the new Shin Ultraman statue is slated for a June 25, 2022 release.
The Ultraman featured in "Shin Ultraman" is based on "Incarnation of Truth, Justice, and Beauty," an original painting by the late Tohl Narita, the designer of the original Ultraman. This modern interpretation strips away elements born from the practicalities of the original suit, such as the Color Timer, the peepholes under the eyes for the actor, and the fin-like dorsal zipper cover. Instead, CG technology is used to faithfully recreate Narita's vision of a slender, beautifully streamlined figure.
The Character Classics Ultraman (Shin Ultraman) is sculpted by the renowned Kaiyodo artist Takashi Kinoshita. Standing at a substantial 27cm tall, the statue is crafted from resin, a material that allows for far more intricate detail and precision than standard PVC or ABS plastics. It captures Ultraman in the iconic firing pose for his signature "Spacium Beam" attack and features a built-in LED light-up function in the head to illuminate his eyes.
Unlike previous Ultraman collectibles, this version lacks the Color Timer and is not based on a wrinkled suit. Instead, the sculpt approaches the character as a living being, meticulously rendering realistic human-like musculature and skeletal structure. You can clearly see the impressive detail in the biceps, abdominals, and rib cage, giving the statue a hyper-realistic feel that goes beyond its on-screen appearance.
