Japanese toy manufacturer "Aoshima Bunka Kyozai Co., Ltd." (AOSHIMAアオシマ), known for producing car and motorcycle models, will release the Ingram "Reactive Armor" (イングラム リアクティブアーマー) from the classic anime 'Patlabor' movie version, as part of its robot assembly model series "ACKS" product line. It is scheduled for release in December 2022.
'Patlabor' (機動警察パトレイバー) was created by the HEADGEAR team (consisting of five members). It was first serialized in Shogakukan's 'Weekly Shonen Sunday' in 1988, followed by a TV anime series in 1989, and subsequently novels, OVAs, movie versions, and live-action TV series. The story primarily depicts the daily cases faced by the 'Special Vehicles Section 2,' a police unit stationed in a reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay, equipped with large robots called 'Patlabor.' From routine traffic management to confronting unknown monsters, amidst the tension and busyness, there are occasionally humorous episodes, such as a collective food poisoning incident while trying to eat lunch.
The 'Reactive Armor,' with its strong military style and appearance somewhat resembling riot gear, is equipment from 'Patlabor 2 the Movie' (機動警察パトレイバー 2 the Movie). The original white outer shells of the three Ingram units' shoulders, chest armor, arm armor, and thigh armor have been removed and replaced with black rubber material, with green protective armor on the shoulders, chest, and left arm.
This AV-98 Ingram Unit 2 assembly model, released by Aoshima Bunka Kyozai Co., Ltd. as part of the ACKS series, is also produced at a 1/43 scale, with a total height of approximately 19 cm. The design is the latest version supervised by renowned mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi. It boasts excellent joint articulation, allowing for various poses identical to those in the original work. Head parts for Unit 1 to Unit 3 are included and can be freely interchanged. The cockpit can be opened, and figures of Izumi Noa, Ota Isao, and Nagumo Shinobu are included and can be placed inside the cockpit. The revolver can be stored in the leg. Water decals for finer details are also included.
