Japan's official Mobile Suit Gundam Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, today announced that the latest event-exclusive product from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, the "MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos [Recirculation Color / Neon Blue]", will be exclusively available in stores starting July 16, 2022.
ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos is one of the 72 Gundam Frame mobile suits built during the "Calamity War" 300 years ago. After the war, it was abandoned in the Martian desert and later discovered and taken over by the private security company "Chryse Guard Security (CGS)". It was piloted by CGS's child soldier, Mikazuki Augus, when "Gjallarhorn" attacked the base. Although its armor had deteriorated after centuries of disuse, the frame's performance remained as good as new. It features flexible articulation, high mobility, and high versatility, excelling in close-quarters melee combat. Its responsiveness was further enhanced when linked with Mikazuki's Alaya-Vijnana System, allowing intuitive control of the mobile suit's posture through the brain, enabling explosive movements and power even in gravity environments.
The "MG 1/100 Gundam Barbatos [Recirculation Color / Neon Blue]" uses the same kit as the regular version released in December 2019, meticulously researching and reproducing the colors, articulation mechanisms, and detailed sculpt of the "Gundam Frame" section. It utilizes a rich array of molded colors to recreate the mobile suit's hues, features a rotating mechanism for the chest's Ahab Reactor, and interlocking mechanisms for the armor and frame's hydraulic pipes in the upper body, shoulders, and knees. These enhance the model's information density, making its movements more natural and dynamic, faithfully reproducing the cool design of Gundam Barbatos's 4th Form from the series.
Unlike the regular version, this version's parts are made from recycled materials, created by recycling runner frames and remolding them into Gunpla. The black parts retain the original color of the recycled material, while striking neon blue molded colors are added as accents on areas such as the antennas, eyes, and exhaust vents. In addition to its somewhat stylish color scheme, it also showcases Bandai's active efforts in environmental protection and carbon reduction in recent years. Furthermore, it includes specially designed stickers featuring the "RE (RECIRCULATION)" logo, which can be applied to various parts of the mobile suit.
