Japan's Bushiroad Creative company's gashapon brand TAMA-KYU (たまきゅう) announced today (the 1st) several new products to be released in September 2022. This article brings you product information for the "Grown-Up Tanuki" (tentative translation, 大きくなっちゃっタヌキ) gashapon toys.
In Japanese, タヌキ (tanuki) refers to a canid animal known as a "raccoon dog" or "tanuki". In Japan, besides the iconic beckoning cat, shops often use tanuki as a motif for good luck and prosperity charms. However, the TAMA-KYU release this time isn't just a simple, cute mascot gashapon. Instead, it features an interesting new style that combines elements from their previously released "60% Increased Animals" series. These tanuki have indeed grown up, but only *parts* of their bodies have become super-sized, which is absolutely hilarious! There are 5 types to collect:
