French sculpting brand Cartoon Kingdom, established in 2021, recently unveiled its latest product from the classic animation "Popeye the Sailor": the "Popeye" 1/6 scale diorama statue! Dual versions with different colored boats were simultaneously released, with an estimated shipping start in Q1 2024.
"Popeye" is certainly one of many toy collectors' cherished memories; as children, we genuinely believed that eating a lot of spinach would make us as strong as him! As a rugged sailor, Popeye loves his pipe and constantly brawls with his rival, Bluto, to win Olive Oyl's affection. Compared to the tall, burly, and cunning Bluto, the seemingly scrawny Popeye would typically get a good beating at first. However, after he consumes spinach in various exaggerated ways, Popeye unleashes his true power, coolly and effortlessly dispatching Bluto.
This "Popeye" statue by Cartoon Kingdom is crafted from resin and PU, capturing his most iconic look: squeezing a can of spinach until it bursts, poised to swallow the airborne spinach in one gulp. The diorama also features a boat, which not only aligns with his sailor identity but also, with its slightly smaller size, emphasizes Popeye's powerful presence, creating a visually engaging overall effect. The detailing is superb, including Popeye's attire, his wide-open mouth expression, the texture and weathered finish of the wooden boat, and the splashing waves at the base, among others. Highly recommended for old-school toy collectors who love Popeye the Sailor!
