Having released numerous classic super robots, and featuring "large size" and "articulation" as its selling points, the "GABM" (GRAND ACTION BIGSIZE MODEL) series of toys from Japanese toy company EVOLUTION TOY is scheduled to release an articulated figure of the robot "Gaiking" from the classic series 《Daiku Maryu》 in October 2023!
The work 《Daiku Maryu》 (Daiku Maryu Gaiking) was originally produced by Toei Animation, drawing inspiration from Go Nagai's original concept, and began broadcasting in 1976. It tells the story of Earth forming a defense team composed of young people, known as the "Daiku Maryu Squadron," to counter the invasion and expansion of the evil Dark Horror Army. Furthermore, scientist Dr. Yozou Daimonji designed the colossal 400-meter-long battleship "Daiku Maryu," which truly resembles a dragon in appearance and is equipped with numerous powerful armaments. Its head can separate and combine with other parts to form the 50-meter-tall robot "Gaiking" (ガイキング), piloted by Sanshiro Tsuwabuki (ツワブキ・サンシロー).
This Gaiking figure from Daiku Maryu, released by EVOLUTION TOY, stands approximately 45 cm tall, making it quite massive. Furthermore, just like in the original series, Gaiking can be separated into three parts, recreating the robot's separation and recombination process. Its articulation maintains the series' consistent standard, offering significant poseability despite its large size. The pointed parts equipped on its knees can be detached and held as weapons, making this a truly eye-catching product.
