BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS collector's toy division in Japan has officially announced today the latest product from the popular die-cast toy series 'METAL BUILD': the "Proto GN Sword Unit," originating from the new Gundam 00 collaborative project "Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Revealed Chronicle," scheduled for release in October 2023.
"Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Revealed Chronicle" brings together creators involved in the production of the "Mobile Suit Gundam 00" anime, such as Seiji Mizushima, Yosuke Kuroda, and Tomohiro Chiba. Through the METAL BUILD series, it introduces new settings not mentioned in the anime, specifically the "DOUBLE DRIVE Technology," filling in the gap in Celestial Being's technological development from third-generation mobile suits like the Gundam Exia to the fourth-generation 00 Gundam, which officially adopted the "Twin Drive System."
This "Proto GN Sword Unit" is an enhanced armament designed to test the results of DOUBLE DRIVE Technology. Two "GND Buster Sword III" units are mounted on the left shoulder of the Gundam Astraea Type F II, which has achieved high GN Particle output. Depending on the combat situation, it can switch between a twin sword mode for close-quarters combat, a beam rifle mode for long-range engagements, and an incredibly powerful greatsword mode. This equipment later evolved into the GN Sword III used by the 00 Gundam.
The "Proto GN Sword Unit" is constructed from ABS and die-cast parts, finished with a weighty gray-white paint scheme. When combined with the separately sold Gundam Astraea Type F II, it forms the Astraea Type F II with Proto GN Sword Unit. The two "GND Buster Sword III" units can transform, as per their design, into twin sword mode, beam rifle mode, and an impressive greatsword mode with an overall length of approximately 23 cm, by swapping parts.
