The HOBBY Division of BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd. of Japan recently announced its latest product, the "Ankylosaurus," from its dinosaur-themed assembly model series, "PLANNOSAURUS," with a scheduled release in October 2023.
The "PLANNOSAURUS" series is an assembly model product suitable for children aged 6 and above, as well as adults. Supervised by Japanese reptile and dinosaur researcher Kyoichi Tomita, it thoroughly recreates biological features from the skeleton to the outer skin and features movable joints. During the assembly process, one can also learn about dinosaurs. This series of models does not require nippers or adhesive, allowing for easy removal of parts and completion of assembly. The parts are mainly divided into two sections: skeleton and outer skin, allowing for free choice to assemble different appearances.
This latest product features the Ankylosaurus, known as the "Cretaceous Heavy Tank." It can be assembled step-by-step from the grayish-white skeletal parts to the outer skin parts, restoring the Ankylosaurus's form. Movable joints are included in areas such as the mouth, neck, forelimbs, and hindlimbs, allowing users to pose it in their favorite actions. The overall design is highly detailed and well-researched. The arrangement of the osteoderms covering its back references that of its close relative, the Borealopelta, and it also recreates the seamless, hard skull, the hammer-like caudal club at the end of its tail capable of fracturing a T-Rex's bones, and the thick tendons connecting the bone plates.
