THE GUNDAM BASE KOREA, the official Bandai-operated flagship Gunpla store for "Mobile Suit Gundam" in Korea, announced today that its commemorative product, the "MG 1/100 GBK-20 Gundam Astray [The Gundam Base Korea 20th Anniversary Memorial Edition]", will be exclusively sold starting August 24, 2023, at events such as the 'Bandai Namco Korea FUN EXPO' to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
This "GBK-20 Gundam Astray" is a custom-built mobile suit that incorporates numerous elements from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" machines. It features the upper body of the Gundam Astray Blue Frame, the lower body of the Gundam Astray Red Frame, and the same "Destiny R Silhouette" backpack as the Destiny Impulse Gundam R. Its overall appearance resembles the "Gundam Astray Noir D" that appeared in "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY ASTRAY". The color scheme blends the blue and white tones of The Gundam Base logo with the red, black, and yellow lines inspired by the White Base-style exterior of the store, resulting in a visually harmonious design.
As per the mobile suit's characteristics mentioned above, the parts for the "MG 1/100 GBK-20 Gundam Astray" appear identical to those of the original mobile suits. The molding colors have been largely replaced with the Korea Gundam Base 20th Anniversary commemorative scheme, and original decals are included to reproduce markings such as "GBK20" on the fuselage. The two katana armaments on either side of the waist, "Kiku-ichimonji" and "Kotetsu", also feature ornate hilts, but their blades have been changed to red beam effect parts. The overall design continues the Astray series' flexible movable joints in its frame. The two long-range beam turret cannons on the back can be rotated forward to recreate firing poses, and the two mobile wings not only feature deployment mechanisms but can also be equipped with cool "Wings of Light" effect parts!
