BANDAI SPIRITS' collectible toy division is set to release a PVC figure of Genya Shinazugawa, a member of the Demon Slayer Corps from the popular anime series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba," as part of its non-articulated character figure series "Figuarts ZERO" in December 2023. The price will be 9,900 JPY.
Created by Japanese manga artist Koyoharu Gotouge, the immensely popular manga series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" (鬼滅の刃), which began serialization in 2016, concluded in 2020 but its popularity remains undiminished. The second season of the anime, "Entertainment District Arc," finished airing in February 2022, and the third season, "Swordsmith Village Arc," aired on April 9, 2023. In June, the production of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc" was announced.
In the original story, Genya Shinazugawa is a同期生 (same-period trainee) as the protagonist Tanjiro. As the younger brother of Sanemi Shinazugawa, the "Wind Hashira," his strength is not comparable to his brother's, and he cannot use any breathing techniques. However, he possesses unique biting and digestive organs, allowing him to consume demons' bodies, gain their abilities, and use Blood Demon Arts, earning him the title "Demon Eater." Initially, his relationship with Tanjiro and others was strained, but it later softened after being moved by their sibling bond. During the final battle, he fought alongside the Stone Hashira and others against Upper Rank One, "Kokushibo." Although they collectively defeated the opponent, Genya succumbed to his severe injuries. In his final moments, he reconciled with his brother before perishing in his arms.
This Figuarts ZERO Genya Shinazugawa figure is based on his sword-wielding action pose, standing approximately 17.5 cm tall. Genya is depicted with his Nichirin Blade in his right hand, mid-swing, accompanied by purple slashing effects that enhance the power and dynamism of the movement. The explosive effect base under his right foot further amplifies the overall sense of strength. In his left hand, Genya holds his beloved double-barreled shotgun. Furthermore, this figure features interchangeable head parts: in addition to his normal expression, there is a special demonized head sculpt depicting Genya after consuming a demon.
