The Altron Gundam has been released for some time, and I've been eagerly anticipating the day I could play with it. It certainly didn't disappoint. Of course, there are still some areas that could be improved.
The mobile suit is much more robust than its ROBOT SPIRITS era counterpart, giving it a more powerful feel when posing, which is a good thing.
The overall weight is substantial, feeling quite hefty in hand.
The mobile suit's paint application is excellent, with no significant issues to nitpick. Individual markings are printed very clearly and beautifully, truly catching the eye. This is a rare instance of outstanding paintwork, truly delightful!!
The wings on the back have a considerable range of articulation, and the wings can be extended. The Dragon Fang (Dragon Head Spear) has several joints, allowing for easy angle adjustment, and the base of the dragon head can rotate, enabling the Dragon Fang to fire forward.
The articulation at the shoulder position of the arms is ideal. As for its signature Dragon Claws, as usual, they can extend and expand, with two segments of joints that can be pulled out to make the arm longer. One of these segments can even have an extension joint added, allowing the arm to stretch incredibly long.
However, after adding the extension joint, the right arm of my unit couldn't support itself. As everyone knows, I dislike arbitrarily adding stands for support.
The leg articulation is also decent.
Both the left and right fists feature a dragon head, and the dragon fangs can be adjusted for angle, offering good articulation and allowing for wide poses. When transformed into gauntlets, the overall power is even more apparent.
As for the weapon, it's the Twin Beam Trident (Three-Pointed Blade), and effect parts can be attached to both ends. Compared to the excellent performance in other areas, this weapon appears quite ordinary.
Furthermore, the Altron Gundam can hold a shield, just like "Captain America."
There's a small gun handle that can be attached to the back, but it tends to fall off easily.
When playing with it, mounting it on a stand is very convenient. The hip joint's connection point is exceptionally well-made; attaching and detaching it from a stand is effortless, neither too tight nor prone to falling off.
However, there are a few shortcomings:
1. After extending the Dragon Claws, it's difficult to align them with the arm's connection point when retracting.
2. The effect parts for the Twin Beam Trident, by today's standards, are quite ordinary.
3. The ground contact performance of the feet could be better.
4. This is likely an individual issue, but while the right shoulder joint on my unit is solid, the left shoulder is "impotent" (lacks strength), already weak before even starting to play with it.
The product comes with too many stands; even holding the Twin Beam Trident requires a stand... Rather than including so many stands, it would be better to diligently address stability issues. Honestly, when playing with it, there's no real need for so many stands. If so many stands are truly necessary, the toy's condition is genuinely concerning.
The paint application has improved significantly recently; it's truly beautiful, and praise is certainly due for the well-executed aspects! My wish is simple: I just hope they release the other "brothers" (Gundam Wing characters/mobile suits) as well, then my dream will be complete.
