Hong Kong toy manufacturer Hot Toys today (18th) announced its latest product from "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope", the "Sandtrooper Sergeant & Dewback" 1/6th scale collectible set! Both the Sandtrooper and Dewback will also be available as separate releases, with an estimated release in Q3-Q4 2024.
First appearing in "A New Hope" back in 1977, the "Sandtrooper" is a specialized trooper trained by the Imperial Army for combat and missions in harsh desert environments. Unlike regular Imperial Stormtroopers, Sandtroopers have added cooling fans and sand filters within their armor and helmets to adapt to the environment. In addition to their armor often being covered in yellow sand, the survival backpack carrying rations and water on their back is also a distinctive external feature.
And often seen accompanying Sandtroopers is the "Dewback," a species endemic to Tatooine. Due to their ease of taming and Tatooine's dusty environment making it unsuitable for piloting starships, riding Dewbacks is a common mode of transportation.
The "Sandtrooper Sergeant" stands approximately 30 cm tall and features 30 points of articulation. It faithfully recreates the white pauldron signifying the Sergeant rank according to Star Wars lore, as well as the weathered sand and dust accumulated from prolonged missions in desert environments. Detailed elements such as the equipment pouch on the left shoulder, utility belt, and survival backpack are meticulously reproduced. Accessories include two different styles of blaster rifles, a long staff for riding the Dewback, binoculars, a damaged droid part, multiple interchangeable hands, and a desert-themed display base.
Next is the highly imposing "Dewback," standing 37 cm tall and measuring 80 cm long. In addition to its meticulously crafted scaly skin texture, yellow-green gradient paint application, and lifelike fur, it is equipped with riding gear such as a saddle, reins, burlap roll, and multiple pouches. The deluxe version of the Dewback will include an additional closed-mouth jaw part and an extra right front leg part; it's worth noting that the "Sandtrooper Sergeant & Dewback" set will include the deluxe version of the Dewback.
