The popular plastic model series 'Megami Device', released by Japanese model manufacturer Kotobukiya, which combines colorful mechanical equipment with highly articulated Bishoujo bodies, first unveiled the "X Series" earlier this year. It has now been officially named the 'BUSTER DOLL' series, with its first product, "BUSTER DOLL Gunner," set to launch in January 2024.
The 'BUSTER DOLL' series adopts the latest "Machineca Block2-M" articulated body developed by sculptor Masaki Apsy. Compared to previous bodies, the part structure has been completely revamped, developed with a focus on significantly improving assembly convenience and expandability for interchangeable parts, while also enhancing the aesthetic beauty of the body lines. Its features include:
・Multiple sizes and lengths of spherical neck joints compatible with various product specifications from Kotobukiya
・Achieves the series' first built-in articulated frame structure, significantly enhancing part interchangeability
・Utilizes one-piece molded leg exterior parts and a post-assembly design, reducing unsightly seams and facilitating painting and customization
・Adds 3mm peg-hole weapon connection rings on both ears, shoulders, wrists, thighs, and calves
・Adopts a layered armor system that further subdivides the series' traditional body and armed modes into four modes: body, costume, light armor, and heavy armor
・Includes numerous hardpoint expansion parts, greatly enhancing weapon expandability
・Features a new dedicated display base with an articulated stand that has more movable axes to stably support the main body's various poses
・Traditional PVC soft plastic hands have been changed to hard plastic material, with weapon-holding hands capable of accommodating both round and square weapon grips, easily securing them after inserting parts
Upon completion, "BUSTER DOLL Gunner" stands approximately 16 cm tall. It includes three pre-printed face parts for interchangeability, as well as three unprinted face parts and water decals for custom expressions. It is also compatible with most face parts from previous body types. In addition to the pure white underwear, the body design also comes with costume parts inspired by a sailor uniform, along with exterior armor, a backpack, and dual gun parts featuring numerous expansion ports for interchangeable armed modes, allowing for free combination of various parts.
It appears that the new "Machineca Block2-M" articulated body indeed offers richer playability compared to its predecessor. Not only has the number of expansion ports increased, but the areas for customization are also more diverse. Each weapon is molded from a single part, greatly simplifying the structure for easier modification. The "Costume Mode," utilizing common standard costume parts, shows immense potential, and beyond the current sailor uniform design, we can anticipate a wide variety of outfits in the future.
