From Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS company's collector's toy division TAMASHII NATIONS, the robot-themed action figure series 'ROBOT魂 ver. A.N.I.M.E.' today announced the latest product from 'Mobile Suit Gundam', the 'MS-05A Old Zaku Early Production Type', scheduled for release in February 2024.
Also known as 'Old Zaku', the MS-05 Zaku I was the first mobile suit mass-produced and deployed in combat by the Principality of Zeon. Its performance was superior to the Earth Federation's mobile suit technology, which was still immature at the time, and its low cost quickly led to mass production. However, as the war progressed, drawbacks such as heat dissipation issues due to fully internal power pipes and insufficient generator output became apparent. Its primary role was soon replaced by the improved 'Zaku II', relegating it to a secondary role.
This release features the 'Old Zaku Early Production Type' from before its mass production. The product is a modification of the previously released standard version of the Old Zaku, with a retro body proportion reminiscent of the original design drafts. The entire machine's colors have also been revised to the characteristic brown and blue paint scheme of the early production type, and it features abundant body markings. The full body's movable joints also boast flexible designs, including hip joint parts that can be pulled forward, embedded rear calf armor linked with the knee joints, movable front skirt armor, and elbow joints with horizontal pivots, allowing for more dynamic poses.
The product also includes a wealth of weapon accessories, including a 105mm machine gun, 240mm bazooka, gas bullet launcher, heat hawk, and leg-mounted triple missile launcher. It also comes with various connection parts to mount weapons on different parts of the mobile suit, and even abundant effect parts to recreate weapon firing states and thruster jets, allowing for dynamic battle scenes with various interchangeable hand parts.
