It's been 7 or 8 years since I acquired the ROBOT Damashii Hyaku-Shiki. I purchased it immediately on its release day, brought it home, unboxed it, and it has been displayed ever since, making it one of the longest-displayed toys in my collection. Regardless of moving house or any other circumstances, I always made sure to put it out. A few years ago, while organizing my toys, I unfortunately misplaced the SP Mega Particle Cannon and became disheartened, which led to me never completing a review. Recently, I successfully located the SP Mega Particle Cannon, and I immediately took photos, finally fulfilling a dream from years ago.
This is a re-evaluation of an old item with new photography, so naturally, I will analyze the toy's strengths and weaknesses from a contemporary perspective. To be honest, this ROBOT Damashii Hyaku-Shiki is indeed excellent. Although it's a product from 7 or 8 years ago, it still holds up remarkably well. The joints show no signs of loosening, and the colors are largely intact. However, due to being displayed for so long, it inevitably accumulated some dust (which was given a preliminary cleaning before photography).
Regarding the toy's accessories, it comes with two heads, one beam rifle, and one shotgun. If the shotgun could have been made a bit longer, it would have been perfect.
Additionally, there are two swords, whose hilts can be stored in the rear skirt armor during normal display.
In terms of content, it's admittedly not a vast array. However, the inherent "coolness" of the Hyaku-Shiki itself overshadows many of these minor shortcomings.
Of course, if this were from the ANIME series, it should ideally be compatible with all effect parts, which would make playing with it even more engaging. Unfortunately, the ANIME series had not yet been released at that time, so effect parts are not compatible.
Another key highlight is the Mega Particle Cannon. It offers both "Cruising Mode" and "Turret Mode" for us to enjoy. A pleasant surprise is that in both modes, there's no need for an additional stand to support the particle cannon itself. Even though the Hyaku-Shiki has been displayed for 8 years, it still has enough strength to hold the particle cannon.
In Cruising Mode, the barrel isn't strictly supposed to protrude, but having it extended seems to look better and also helps the mobile suit balance more easily.
As for the Turret Mode, posing it took a little time, but it was well worth the effort. The Hyaku-Shiki, equipped with the Mega Particle Cannon, truly looks incredibly stylish.
I used an effect part from the ANIME series for the cannon's muzzle during photography; I think it looks quite good, don't you?
Overall, the ROBOT Damashii Hyaku-Shiki is indeed an excellent release and remarkably durable, showing no issues after all these years. How wonderful would it be if every toy were as enduring as the Hyaku-Shiki?
Playing with "toys of yesteryear" helps us realize that there were many outstanding creations in the past. In an era where several new toys are acquired every month, looking back reveals just how many great pieces we've held in our hands, and they are truly worth cherishing!
