Released by Japan's Bandai Gashapon capsule toy brand, the popular Machibouke (Waiting) series is now launching a new collection from "Death Note", titled "Death Note Characters in Waiting" (tentative translation, デスノート まちぼうけ)! It is scheduled for release in the third week of this October.
Initially, I simply thought these were capsule toys that rendered popular "Death Note" characters in 3D with a big-head chibi design, reinterpreting their poses in the consistent classic style of the Machibouke series. However, the more I looked, the more I felt that they actually have a deep connection with "waiting". L (Ryuzaki) continuously waits for Kira to reveal his true colors and be apprehended. Light Yagami constantly eliminates his opponents, awaiting the moment he becomes the God of the New World. Misa Amane waits to share an endless beautiful future with Light. Ryuk, bored in the Shinigami Realm, dropped his notebook into the human world, waiting for something interesting to happen. And Rem, the Shinigami, waits for someone who can protect Misa to appear. While the figures themselves have cute proportions, they indeed exude an atmosphere of lurking and eeriness!
