Japanese model maker MEGAHOUSE has announced today the latest product in its large-scale, sound and light-equipped monster statue series, "UA Monsters": "Gamera (2023)" from the anime "GAMERA -Rebirth-", slated for release in March 2024.
Gamera, a popular monster in Japanese tokusatsu history often compared to Godzilla, has finally made its official comeback in the Reiwa era with the 6-episode Netflix anime series "GAMERA -Rebirth-", after 17 years of dormancy since its last film, "Gamera the Brave". This work presents an entirely new story, independent of previous films, directed by Hironori Seshita, who previously helmed the "Godzilla" anime film trilogy. The story is set in Japan in 1989, where four elementary school boys witness the monster Gyaos attack their hometown of Tokyo. In this crisis, Gamera suddenly appears and engages in a fierce battle with a large swarm of Gyaos, only for other monsters like Jiger, Zigra, Guilon, and Viras to emerge one after another.
The "UA Monsters Gamera (2023)" boasts a large size with a total height of approximately 30 cm. Under the supervision of Hironori Seshita, it extensively recreates the CG model used in the series, featuring a broad physique, thick limbs, and other characteristics. It meticulously sculpts the hard reptilian skin textures and the concentric growth rings on its shell. Even the soles of its feet, typically unseen during display, are reproduced with intricate patterns, wrinkles, and claw designs.
Furthermore, this statue incorporates rich sound and light effects. By activating the switch on the base, Gamera's abdominal carapace seams will glow, accompanied by impressive roaring sound effects. In Mode 1, Gamera's eyes and abdominal carapace will illuminate while playing a roar. Mode 2, on the other hand, plays a different roar and features lights sequentially illuminating from the abdomen, chest, neck, and mouth, recreating the iconic scene of it firing its ultimate attack, the "Charged Particle Cannon"!
