Japanese toy company KOTOBUKIYA's "ARTFX J" product series has officially announced its latest products from Naoya Matsumoto's "Kaiju No. 8": "Kaiju No. 8" and "Kafka Hibino". This article will provide product information for the "Kaiju No. 8" 1/8 scale PVC pre-painted figure, scheduled for release in November 2024, with a suggested retail price of 15,000 JPY.
Created by Japanese manga artist Naoya Matsumoto, "Kaiju No. 8" is set in Japan, a country with an extremely high rate of kaiju appearances. The protagonist, Kafka Hibino, harbored a grand ambition since childhood to join the Defense Force and fight kaiju. However, due to repeated failures in the entrance exams, he had long given up on joining and instead took on the job of cleaning up kaiju carcasses, reaching the age of 32. One day, a young man named Reno Ichikawa became Kafka's junior. Unexpectedly, the two were suddenly attacked by a kaiju. After saving Reno, Kafka resolved to try joining the Defense Force again. That very night, however, Kafka was invaded by an unknown creature, transforming him into an incredibly powerful kaiju, which the world came to know as "Kaiju No. 8"...
This figure stands approximately 28 cm tall, meticulously recreating Kaiju No. 8's battle stance with bent legs and a right fist striking upwards, based on the anime's design. From the exposed bones of its ferocious face, the thick black hide covering its entire body, and the muscles in its chest and abdomen, to the spine-like bones on its back, every detail is faithfully reproduced. In addition to the light blue paintwork on its body, blue glowing effects, reminiscent of Kaiju No. 8 unleashing its power, have been added around its limbs and torso, further enhancing the visual impact of the overall sculpt! The intricate detailing in each part, especially the head sculpt, is exquisite, with the use of gradient colors, shading, and crack depictions all contributing to the figure's organic feel.
▼ Purchases made at the KOTOBUKIYA official store (コトブキヤショップ) will also receive a bonus interchangeable head sculpt featuring a partial reveal of Kafka Hibino's face.
▼ Key characters from "Kaiju No. 8" will also be continuously released in the future, including junior Reno Ichikawa, Kikoru Shinomiya, Soshiro Hoshina, and Mina Ashiro.
