Japanese toy company KOTOBUKIYA's "ARTFX J" figure series is set to release a 1/8 scale PVC figure of "Reno Ichikawa," one of the popular characters from the current hit series "Kaiju No. 8," in January 2025! The price will be 14,960 JPY!
"Kaiju No. 8" (怪獣8号) is a manga created and illustrated by Japanese manga artist Naoya Matsumoto, which began serialization on "JUMP+" in July 2020. As of December 2023, its tankōbon circulation has exceeded 12 million copies, setting many fastest-selling records for "JUMP+". The anime adaptation began airing on April 13, 2024. The story follows the ordinary 32-year-old protagonist, Kafka Hibino, a low-level employee at a kaiju corpse disposal company. In his childhood, he and his childhood friend Mina Ashiro were attacked by a kaiju and promised to join the Defense Force together to fight kaiju. During a job with new company recruit Reno Ichikawa, they were attacked by a kaiju. After being hospitalized, Kafka's body was invaded by an unknown creature, granting him the ability to transform into a kaiju. He used this power to save citizens and became known as "Kaiju No. 8." With his newfound power, Hibino rekindled his determination to join the Defense Force, later entering it alongside Reno Ichikawa.
▼ Official Promotional Video for "Kaiju No. 8" Anime:
Reno Ichikawa (市川レノ), in the original work, possessed an 8% release of combat power when he first joined the Defense Force, which increased to 18% within two months. He deeply respects his senior, Hibino, who once saved him, and was also the first to know the true identity of Kaiju No. 8. His combat abilities are exceptional; he knows how to adapt his weapon usage to different situations, and his superiors highly praise his skills, seeing great potential in his future development.
This ARTFX J Reno Ichikawa figure, at 1/8 scale, recreates his appearance from the anime. Standing approximately 165mm tall, it captures Ichikawa in his Defense Force combat suit and mask, with a serious gaze, holding his rifle, and in a kneeling, squatting firing pose. The special base is designed to resemble a broken road barrier and shattered concrete, giving the overall impression of being in combat with a kaiju.
