Live-Action "The Exit 8" Movie Stars Arashi's Kazunari Ninomiya, Set for August Release

KOTAKE CREATE's indie horror escape game, The Exit 8 (8番出口), became an instant hit with Japanese gamers when it dropped on Steam in late November 2023. Its eerie resemblance to real-life underground passages quickly made it a go-to for streamers and VTubers alike.

Last year's announcement of a live-action film adaptation definitely raised some eyebrows! Today (March 28), the official word is out: Arashi's own Kazunari Ninomiya is set to star, with Yamato Kawachi playing the game's iconic "old man." Mark your calendars – it hits Japanese theaters on August 29, 2025!

The Exit 8 is a short walking simulator inspired by Japan's underground passages. Players find themselves trapped in an endlessly looping subway underpass, facing terrifying "anomalies" as they try to find "Exit 8." Its simple yet uniquely unsettling world quickly sparked widespread buzz.

After its 2023 Steam debut, the game exploded in popularity, later making its way to Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PS4. Its suspenseful, adventure-tinged gameplay drew in countless streamers, even surprising the creator with its massive success.

The live-action "The Exit 8" movie is a Toho production, helmed by film producer Genki Kawamura, known for his work on "Confessions," "Villain," and films by Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai. Former Johnny's group Arashi idol, Kazunari Ninomiya, plays the protagonist lost in the underground passage, while actor Yamato Kawachi takes on the role of the wandering "old man."
