BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division in Japan, which offers the most comprehensive lineup of Gunpla 'HG (High Grade)' series faithfully recreating anime designs, has announced the latest product from the anime 'Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX', the "HG 1/144 Rick Dom Gaia / Ortega Custom (GQ)", scheduled for release in September 2025.
In the 'GQuuuuuuX' timeline, the Zeon mobile suit "MS-09 Rick Dom" is, by design, also a space-use specification modified from the ground-combat model 'Dom'. Designer Ikuto Yamashita has re-designed its appearance based on the original 'Mobile Suit Gundam' design. While the overall silhouette is similar, the limbs are more slender. The new back design is astonishing, not only adding large thrusters to both sides of the waist but also directly installing a 'third leg', allowing it to transform into a high-mobility form capable of high-speed hovering movement.
The standard Rick Dom features a green-based color scheme, while the "Black Tri-Stars"—now consisting only of Gaia and Ortega in the series—adopt the same purple-based color scheme as their original design.
The "HG 1/144 Rick Dom Gaia / Ortega Custom (GQ)" utilizes Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology, along with a rich array of molded color parts, to faithfully recreate its substantial and heavy body. The movable joints throughout largely reproduce Ikuto Yamashita's new design, allowing for dynamic battle poses from the series. Furthermore, it can transform into its 'high-mobility form' by deploying the third leg on its back without the need for part replacement.
For weaponry, it includes two 'Heat Sabers', one 'Giant Bazooka', and yellow single-core wire parts to recreate the 'Electromagnetic Whip' weapon concealed within the arm.
