The "ENTRY GRADE" series, a plastic model kit line for younger audiences and beginners launched by Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division, today unveiled the prototype of its latest product, the "ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Wing Gundam" from "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing," at the "63rd Shizuoka Hobby Show." The product is scheduled for release in October 2025.
The XXXG-01W Wing Gundam is a mobile suit developed by Doctor J based on the data of the Wing Gundam Zero. Piloted by protagonist "Heero Yuy," it was deployed in "Operation Meteor" against the Earth Sphere Unified Nation (OZ). This mobile suit largely inherits the characteristics of the Wing Gundam Zero, possessing extremely high mobility and the ability to transform into a high-speed "Bird Mode." Its armaments are also not to be underestimated; its main weapon, the "Buster Rifle," boasts battleship-class firepower and powerful penetration, causing significant damage to enemy mobile suits in its beam path. A "self-destruct device" was installed to prevent the enemy from acquiring confidential machine data.
The "ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Wing Gundam" continues the series' style, featuring easy assembly, precise part separation, and flexible articulation. It can be assembled with a minimal number of parts, and the parts come in a rich variety of molded colors. The gate marks are designed for convenience, allowing parts to be removed directly by gently pressing them by hand, without the need for tools like nippers. The part assembly design also extensively uses a snap-fit structure, which, compared to the peg-and-hole joints typically used in Gunpla, reduces the creation of seam lines and the risk of difficulty in separating parts if assembled incorrectly, making it easy for model kit beginners to get started.
The kit utilizes a rich array of molded colors including white, yellow, red, blue, dark gray, and green, allowing for a significant recreation of the Wing Gundam's anime appearance with a straight build. It also boasts excellent articulation, and its armaments include the Buster Rifle and shield. However, it is currently uncertain whether its distinctive transformation mechanism will be reproducible.
