The popular assembly model shokugan series 'SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT', released by BANDAI CANDY, the shokugan division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced the latest product from the classic anime 'Great Mazinger', the 'Great Mazinger FIRE ON! Set', scheduled for release in December 2026.
After Koji Kabuto piloted 'Mazinger Z' through countless battles and finally defeated the Underground Empire led by the evil genius scientist Dr. Hell, a vast power lurking behind them, the 'Mycenae Empire', was just beginning its invasion of the surface. To counter this, Koji's father, Kenzo Kabuto, created another, more powerful 'Great Mazinger' based on Mazinger Z. The pilot was the protagonist of the sequel, Tetsuya Tsurugi, who defended the surface in place of Koji Kabuto, who had gone abroad to study, using Great Mazinger's superior performance to defeat the Battle Beast army dispatched by the Mycenae Empire.
The 'SMP Great Mazinger FIRE ON! Set' features different part molding colors for the Great Mazinger body compared to the standard version. The originally silver parts for the head, abdomen, upper arms, and thighs have been changed to a light green hue, closer to its anime appearance. The overall sculpt faithfully recreates the sophisticated curved armor from the design, and it boasts flexible articulation. The hip joints feature a pull-out mechanism to expand the range of motion for the lower body, allowing for dynamic poses such as high kneeling and the iconic Great Fire pose. The forearms can also be detached from the elbow joints at any time to recreate the 'Great Punch' attack.
This version also adds numerous weapon accessories not included in the standard release. The 'Brain Condor' comes with additional parts that prioritize aesthetic appearance, allowing for the recreation of its flying state and, with effect parts, the Brain Condor docking scene. The Scramble Dash on the back includes parts for its stored state, reverse-direction wing replacement parts, and the 'Great Booster' flight unit, enhanced equipment added later in the story. This can be combined with newly added rear leg fin parts, foot jet effects, and a dedicated stand to recreate flying scenes.
The weaponry is also quite extensive. New dedicated parts for the left and right wrists are included to recreate the 'Spin Great Punch', which can be combined with jet effects to reproduce its launch scene. Additionally, there are two 'Mazinger Blades', 'Great Drill' that deploys from the knees, and a posed hand for performing 'Great Thunder'. All these armaments can be freely interchanged with previously released SMP Mazinger Z, Steel Jeeg, and other units. Furthermore, the lower body can even combine with Steel Jeeg's Mach Driller to form a centaur mode, expanding various original play possibilities.
