BANDAI CANDY, the Shokugan division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced the latest product from its popular assembly model Shokugan series, 'SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT,' featuring "Great Mazinger" from the classic anime "Great Mazinger," scheduled for release in December 2026.
After Koji Kabuto piloted "Mazinger Z" through countless battles and finally defeated the Underground Empire led by the evil genius Dr. Hell, a vast power lurking behind them, the "Mycenae Empire," was just beginning its invasion of the surface. To counter this, Koji's father, Kenzo Kabuto, created another, more powerful "Great Mazinger" based on Mazinger Z. The pilot was the sequel's protagonist, Tetsuya Tsurugi, who defended the surface in place of Koji Kabuto, who had gone abroad to study, using Great Mazinger's superior performance to defeat the Mycenae Empire's Beast Warrior army.
The "SMP Great Mazinger" is produced at a larger size than its predecessor, Mazinger Z, standing at a total height of 14.5 cm. The entire model faithfully reproduces the anime's design, showcasing refined curved armor, a sharper head, and chest heat sinks. Furthermore, the molded colors of parts such as the head, abdomen, upper arms, and thighs adopt the same silver tone as the alloy toys of that era, giving Great Mazinger a more substantial feel. The small fighter jet, "Brain Condor," also features precise sculpting and recreates the mechanism for separation from and combination with Great Mazinger's head.
The full-body articulation design is fundamentally similar to Mazinger Z, with pull-out hip joints to expand the range of motion for the lower body, allowing for dynamic poses such as high kneeling and the iconic Mazinger Fire stance. The forearms can also be detached from the elbow joints at any time to recreate the "Rocket Punch" attack. Additionally, accessories include the "Scramble Dash" flight unit that deploys from the back, with movable wing bases that allow for cool flying poses.
