Japan's Aoshima Bunka Kyozai Co., Ltd.'s model kit brand "ACKS" has announced the latest product from the anime "Mobile Police Patlabor," the "TYPE-J9 Griffon 1/43 Scale Model Kit," scheduled for release in October 2026.
The TYPE-J9 Griffon is an experimental combat Labor secretly developed by SEJ Tsuchiura Research Institute with the goal of creating the "Strongest Labor." Its most prominent external features are its jet-black body and massive twin horns on its head. Developed without regard for cost, this unit saw immense resources poured into its development, showcasing the most superior technological prowess. Both its power and mobility surpass units like the Ingram. Its back can be fitted with a "Flight Unit" for short-duration flight and an "Underwater Unit" for submersion. Its OS even employs the unique, highly efficient "ASURA" system, allowing for agile, biological-like movements.
The "ACKS TYPE-J9 Griffon 1/43 Scale Model Kit" is personally supervised by mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi, bringing his latest design proportions to life in three dimensions. Once assembled, the kit stands approximately 22.5 cm tall. It utilizes glossy black and other multi-colored molded parts to replicate its gleaming jet-black armor and the vividly wrinkled sealed structures of its joints. The head incorporates clear red parts to achieve its aesthetically fierce design.
Thanks to pull-out mechanisms in its hands and feet, and flexible movable joints concealed within its sealed structures, the Griffon boasts a high degree of articulation. It can be posed in various cool combat stances from the series using multiple interchangeable hand parts, as well as its flight pose with its back wings deployed. The cockpit also features an opening mechanism that doesn't require part replacement. Furthermore, Shinichi Hagiwara was commissioned to illustrate the product's box art, depicting the Griffon in a striking scene flying before a full moon.
