Celebrating its 40th anniversary, BANDAI SPIRITS' collector-focused division is set to release a special HI-METAL R action figure set in February 2022. This commemorative edition features the iconic "Dougram" and the "ARMC-Instead" 8-wheeled armored car from the classic robot anime, "Fang of the Sun Dougram."
"Fang of the Sun Dougram" (太陽の牙ダグラム) is a robot anime produced by Japan's Sunrise studio, directed by Ryosuke Takahashi. It first aired on TV Tokyo in 1981, running for a total of 75 episodes. A standout feature of the series is its non-binary narrative, eschewing traditional good-versus-evil tropes in favor of exploring conflicts driven by differing stances and beliefs. The mecha designs were handled by the renowned Kunio Okawara. Historically, the series holds the second-highest viewership ratings among all robot anime.
This HI-METAL R 40th Anniversary Edition is a special set that includes both the Dougram and the ARMC-Instead 8-wheeled armored car. The Dougram figure boasts enhanced coloring and intricate detail, along with exceptional articulation. Its thighs can be bent to achieve a convincing sitting pose. The set comes with a rich array of accessories, including interchangeable hand parts and various weapon components like a missile launcher. Furthermore, the ARMC-Instead features three interchangeable gun turrets for added display options.
