BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s TAMASHII NATIONS collector's toy division in Japan today announced the latest product from the 'ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E.' series, 'Blue Destiny Unit 1,' from Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: THE BLUE DESTINY, scheduled for release in January 2024.
The prototype MS 'RX-79BD-1 Blue Destiny Unit 1' was originally developed based on the GM Ground Type, but due to unsatisfactory test data, its development was transferred to the higher-performance Gundam Ground Type, thus retaining its distinctive GM head. This unit is equipped with the 'EXAM System,' designed to counter Newtypes. When activated, the head visor turns red, and the system's hardware and software capture the killing intent from the Oldtype pilot's brainwaves, theoretically granting combat abilities comparable to a Newtype. However, this system can only be maintained for 5 minutes, not only easily leading to overheating of the unit, but also the excessive killing intent can cause the system to run wild. In the story, this unit is piloted by Federation Forces Lieutenant Yu Kajima, and soldiers refer to it as the 'Blue Reaper.'
The 'ROBOT SPIRITS Blue Destiny Unit 1 ver. A.N.I.M.E.' faithfully recreates Kunio Okawara's design aesthetic, body proportions, blue color scheme, and refined details based on the original design sketches, with the '01' marking printed on its left shoulder and shield. Utilizing the pull-out shoulder joints and other articulation designs cultivated by the ROBOT SPIRITS series, it can achieve flexible and dynamic combat poses. Notably, the knee armor features movable designs, allowing for elegant high kneeling poses.
For weaponry, it not only includes a Bullpup Machine Gun, 100mm Machine Gun, and Short Shield, but also Beam Sabers that can be stored within the leg side armor, two different Beam Saber effect parts, effect parts to recreate the firing of the 'Chest Wired Missile,' red and blue backpack thruster effects, multiple interchangeable hand parts, and red eye replacement parts to recreate the 'EXAM System' activation, allowing for a wide array of combat scenes!
