BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, today announced the latest product from its 'ROBOT魂 ver. A.N.I.M.E.' series of robot-themed articulated figures, the 'Blue Destiny Unit 3' from 'Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: THE BLUE DESTINY', slated for release in May 2024.
The RX-79BD-3 Blue Destiny Unit 3 was originally a spare unit built by the Earth Federation Forces using parts from Units 1 and 2. However, at the time, Unit 2 was stolen by Zeon Captain Nimbus Schterzen, and Unit 1 was rendered inoperable due to battle damage. In an emergency, the military had no choice but to entrust this unit to protagonist Yu Kajima to engage in combat and pursue Nimbus. Unit 3's performance was essentially the same as Unit 2's, but its 'EXAM System' was equipped with a limiter, allowing it to operate at only 50% capacity. Since the EXAM series developer, Dr. Chrust Moses, was killed by Nimbus, the unit no longer bore his preferred blue color scheme, instead retaining the standard colors of a Ground Type Gundam.
The 'ROBOT魂 Blue Destiny Unit 3 ver. A.N.I.M.E.' is a modification of the previously released Blue Destiny Unit 1, utilizing new parts to create a different Gundam head, thrusters on the outer calves, and a backpack equipped with multi-directional thrusters. Leveraging the pull-out shoulder joints and other articulation designs cultivated in the ROBOT魂 series, it can perform flexible and dynamic combat poses, with particular attention to the movable knee armor, allowing for elegant high-kneeling poses. The entire unit adopts the same black and white color scheme as the Ground Type Gundam.
Its armaments include the same bullpup machine gun, short shield, and ground-spec backpack as Unit 1, as well as the same beam rifle, Federation-style hexagonal shield, and space-spec backpack as Unit 2, all interchangeable. It also comes with beam saber effects, beam rifle effects, chest wired missile launch effects, backpack thruster effects, and replacement parts for the red head camera to recreate the 'EXAM System' activation state, along with red thruster effects, allowing for dynamic battle poses reminiscent of scenes from the series!
