From Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company's collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, the robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT魂 ver. A.N.I.M.E." today announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: THE BLUE DESTINY," the "Blue Destiny Unit 2," scheduled for release in June 2024.
The RX-79BD-2 Blue Destiny Unit 2 is the Earth Federation Forces' second prototype mobile suit, based on the "Gundam Ground Type" and equipped with the EXAM System. Its specifications were modified using operational data from Unit 1, and its backpack and leg thrusters were adapted for space combat. While its overall performance surpassed Unit 1, the crucial EXAM System lacked a limiter, causing immense strain on the pilot when activated and posing a high risk of berserk operation. This unit was originally painted in the same blue as Unit 1, but after being captured by Zeon Captain Nimbus, it was repainted with red shoulders, identical to the Efreet Custom.
The "ROBOT魂 Blue Destiny Unit 2 ver. A.N.I.M.E." is modified from the Blue Destiny Unit 1, featuring newly sculpted parts for the Gundam head, outer calf thrusters, and a multi-directional thruster backpack, all distinct from Unit 1. The entire unit is painted in the red-shouldered livery it adopted after being captured by Captain Nimbus. Leveraging the pull-out shoulder joints and other articulation designs cultivated in the ROBOT魂 series, it can achieve flexible and dynamic combat poses. Notably, the knee armor features movable designs, allowing for elegant high-kneeling poses.
In addition to the standard beam rifle and shield, the armament includes various beam saber effects that convey the power of the beam, an effect part for the chest-mounted wired missile launcher, large thruster effects to represent the backpack's high thrust, and replacement red head camera parts and red thruster effects to recreate the "EXAM System" activation state!
