BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division, a Japanese company, has announced the latest product in the "HG (High Grade) 1/100 Scale" plastic model kit series from "Macross Delta": the "HG 1/100 VF-31E Siegfried (Chuck Mustang Custom)", scheduled for release in June 2026. This product will be available in both a standard edition and a more luxurious DX edition.
The VF-31 Siegfried is a variable fighter used by the "Delta Platoon," a variable fighter unit belonging to the civilian corporate complex "Chaos" in the series, for escorting the musical group "Walküre." This model is an enhanced version of the VF-31 Kairos. In addition to a rich array of armaments such as anti-air beam machine guns, railguns, and assault knives, it also features a FOLD Wave System and multi-drone "Cygnus," among other functions for joint missions with "Walküre," transmitting their songs and calming patients rampaging after a Var Syndrome outbreak.
The "HG 1/100 VF-31E Siegfried (Chuck Mustang Custom)" is based on previously released models in the same series, utilizing the latest technology to create the model piloted by Delta Platoon pilot Chuck Mustang. Through precise color separation and part division techniques, it faithfully reproduces the aircraft's striking proportions, high-density detailed sculpting, and the radome equipment unique to Chuck's Siegfried, all at 1/100 scale. Furthermore, insert molding technology is used to achieve the white fuselage and the yellow lines and color blocks on the wing parts.
The accessories also include five-layer structure stickers made with aluminum vapor deposition on PET film, which are extremely thin, offer high opacity, and vibrant colors, allowing for easy reproduction of the abundant aircraft markings, making the model appear even more realistic.
By replacing some parts, the model can transform into its Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid modes. The complex transformation structure has been simplified to achieve flexible articulation, while also ensuring that each mode closely matches the original design illustrations. In Fighter mode, the cockpit canopy can be opened and closed, allowing a pilot figure to be placed inside, and it is made with a polarizing material that changes color depending on the reflection angle. The bottom parts can be swapped to display the landing gear in its deployed state.
Both the head stored in Fighter and Gerwalk modes, and the complete head for Battroid mode, utilize newly sculpted parts to recreate the distinctive features of Chuck's machine. In Battroid mode, due to the simplified transformation mechanism, the entire body's movable joints retain a flexible range of motion, allowing for various hand gestures, holding two assault knives, and deploying the wrist mini beam gun pods, enabling dynamic combat poses.
The more luxurious "DX Edition" includes not only the standard model kit but also an additional "Reina Prowler Double-sided Illustration Acrylic Stand" and "Reina Prowler Water Decals," newly drawn by Chisato Mita (CAPCOM), the original character designer for "Macross Delta," allowing the fighter to be displayed alongside the members of "Walküre."
