Japan's TAKARA TOMY toy company's immensely popular die-cast mini car brand "TOMICA" is releasing a special product to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the original publication of "Thomas & Friends" – the "Golden Thomas" die-cast mini car set. It has a suggested retail price of 1,650 JPY and is scheduled for release in mid-November 2025!
"Thomas & Friends" is a British children's television series that began airing in 1984, adapted from "The Railway Series" books published by the Awdry father and son between 1945 and 2011. Initially animated using low-cost 1:32 scale physical models, it tells the adventure stories of anthropomorphic trains on the fictional island of Sodor.
This "Golden Thomas" die-cast mini car set includes the Thomas main body and a mini model of the Fat Controller. The intricate sculpting faithfully recreates the details of Thomas's body and and face, transforming his iconic sapphire blue exterior into a high-quality golden yellow, exuding an air of nobility. It can be displayed with the Fat Controller and a green display base featuring the 80th-anniversary commemorative text of the original publication, showcasing the enduring charm of Thomas & Friends!
