Prime 1 Studio, Japan's renowned statue and figure manufacturer, is launching a new ACG character figure brand, "PRISMA WING." Their first release will be a 1/7 scale figure of "Saichi Sugimoto" from the popular anime and manga series "Golden Kamuy." The suggested retail price is a "golden" 37,290 JPY, with an anticipated release in October 2023.
Created by Japanese manga artist Satoru Noda, "Golden Kamuy" (ゴールデンカムイ) is set in Hokkaido during the late Meiji era. It tells the battle-adventure story of former soldier "Immortal" Saichi Sugimoto and Ainu girl Asirpa as they search for gold. The work meticulously depicts and introduces various rich elements of Hokkaido's history, geography, culture, and architecture of the time, Ainu language and customs, hunting and cuisine, wilderness survival, and military warfare. While thoroughly researched, it also maintains a compelling plot and even incorporates comedic segments, earning it recognition as a masterpiece.
The "PRISMA WING Golden Kamuy Saichi Sugimoto" 1/7 scale diorama figure captures the man kneeling in a snow-swept, windswept landscape, aiming his Type 30 rifle. The distinct scar visible beneath his hat brim reveals the ferocity of a seasoned warrior... the Immortal Sugimoto has arrived! Standing approximately 20 cm tall, the figure meticulously portrays Sugimoto's piercing gaze. Details of his attire and accessories, such as his belt, waist equipment, leather boots, and scarf, are faithfully reproduced. Both metallic and leather textures, as well as the folds and creases created by his pose, are rendered with exquisite detail. The rifle in his hand and the scattered bullets further enhance the tense, in-the-moment atmosphere.
The diorama's design realistically recreates a rugged terrain of snow-covered rocks and trees. Sugimoto's personal satchel is intricately sculpted, and at his feet, an open lunchbox reveals his favorite "Osoma"... miso! This not only showcases the series' world but also brings to mind the hilarious scene where he and Asirpa comically eat "poop" (no, it's miso)!
